Most people start on a Firestick, and it takes roughly five minutes from a boxed stick to live television. Note that older sticks cap out below 8K, so check yours against the 8K channel list before expecting the top feeds. Amazon moved the sideloading switch between versions, so both are covered below.
Get the Downloader App on Firestick
- 1. Open the FireStick home screen and go to Find > Search.
- 2. Type "Downloader" using the virtual keyboard and select it from suggestions.
- 3. Choose the orange-background Downloader app and click Get / Download.
Enable Apps from Unknown Sources
Version 1 (most Firesticks):
- 1. Press the Home button, then open Settings (gear icon).
- 2. Go to My Fire TV > Developer Options.
- 3. Enable "Apps from Unknown Sources".
Version 2 (newer models):
- 1. Open Settings > My Fire TV > About.
- 2. Tap "Fire TV Stick" 7 times to unlock Developer Options.
- 3. Go to Developer Options and enable ADB Debugging.
